Spring Fight At The Dear Park In Jaipur

The Forest Department’s Ashok Vihar Deer Park, is spread on a parcel of  land two and a half hectares in area. It is located in the heart of the city,in the C-Scheme Colony. It is not a big park but it has given good cheer to many a local child  and  children visiting Jaipur.Recently due to lack of space in the Park  and insufficient fodder and ever increasing numbers of chitals  a dozen deers were realesed in the Jhalana Forest Area and some were sent to the Kaila Devi Forest Park in Karauli. Though the Forest Department looks after the Park the food for the deer comes from the Jaipur Zoo.Far from the crowds and ever present traffic  this is one more place for a peaceful morning walk in Jaipur.

An Animal Fair With A Difference

Every year in the month of October, for the past 500 years, a four day animal fair  is held in Bhawgarh Bandhya, near jaipur, in the Looniyawas village. Held in honour of the Sri KhalKhani Mata-this fair showcases the best of Donkeys money can buy. There is sale and purchase of donkeys, race featuring donkeys, poem recitals in praise of donkeys, prizes for the best bred donkey of the marwari or kathiawari breed, beauty pageant to find the Ms. Donkey & Mr.Donkey among other events. The owners name their donkeys after the bollywood stars to enhance their charms in the eyes of the buyers.Even so the organisers have a difficult time every year to find VVIPs to do the honours at the fair.

As people are preferring to buy horses instead of donkeys or mules for their use these days  a lot of horses turn up at the fair every year also. For example this year there were only 300 donkeys and 50 mules but about 1200 horses at the mela. Also on display was a white colored Shyam Karan Horse  worth 31 lacs.According to the scriptures Lord Ram set loose a Shyam Karan horse when he performed the Ashwa medh yagh.

Legend has it that Sri Khalkhani mata performed a miracle for her devotee in distress by turning a bag of stones into gold coins.Since then this fair is held every year.

It Is A Dog’s Holiday

In theses days of nuclear families and rushed life of metros and jobs which will take you any where in India you do not have the extended family to support each other in an emergency or when you want to go on holidays. So you have to take your pet with you on a holiday too.But if you can manage it leave your pet with friends or family or a pet sitting agency. It is a good idea.Just imagine the pleasure both of you will get when you go to pick up the pet after the holiday.

Dogs come in all sizes. The bigger they are the more difficult they will be to manage in strange places and among strangers. They are just one more child of whom you have to be doubly careful.Given it is not a chore it is a pleasure to look after the gentleman who just happens to be a dog.You will never even realize when your holiday will be hijacked by your pet.All decisions will revolve around the fact whether the establishment is dog friendly or not.One disgruntled owners refusal to entertain your pet can put a cloud over the whole holiday.

Dogs do get injured on holidays. You will always have to have him on a leash. When you take him to the hotel-you will definitely want him in your room-you will have to ensure that his paws and mouth are clean, you will have to take him out twice a day, maybe even clean up after him. What if he takes a dislike to a guest or one of the staff. He can be vociferously loud in showing his displeasure.

Bring your friend on a holiday with you only as a last resort.Ensure that he has had all his shots at the Vet’s. If you have a car and a driver-it will make your life simpler on the holiday with a pet.
